Choose a product
From Home or Product options, choose Add options to a product. Choose your Shopify product and a starting point, such as engraving, gift wrapping or made-to-measure. You can also start from scratch. Existing product options open without being replaced.
A blank set starts from the Shopify product price. Starters can use different pricing methods; check their prices before publishing.
Edit the options
The editor has four workspaces: Options, Pricing, Appearance and Products. Switching workspaces keeps your edits in place.
Choose a question in the outline, or select it in the preview. Edit its label, input style, required status and help text. Add answers to choice fields and set their additional charges. Technical controls are in expandable panels.
Option and answer changes—including adding, duplicating, deleting and moving them—stay in your local draft until you use Shopify's Save bar. Discard restores the saved structure and pending field edits. The outline and preview show pending changes immediately. Once a complete release exists, working option edits do not change that live release until publication.
Check the pricing
Open Pricing. For ordinary add-ons, keep Add option charges to the Shopify product price enabled. For calculated products, add a pricing rule. The area-pricing helper asks for measurement fields, units, a rate and a minimum charge. Advanced rules support tables, tiers and formulas.
Save pending changes, then use Test a configuration. The tester uses saved working rules. Check ordinary selections, minimum and maximum sizes, and conditional options.
Preview and publish
In the preview, Select edits questions and Try it answers as a shopper. Mobile checks a narrower layout. The header's Preview opens a product preview.
Choose Review & publish, review the linked products, choose Prepare publication, then press Save in Shopify's save bar. Publication happens after pending edits save.
Complete releases include options, conditions, option-set appearance overrides and prices. Product assignments, store-wide settings and 3D assets are managed separately. Version history restores versions that have complete snapshots. Older price-only versions cannot restore a complete configuration.
Shared sets affect every linked product. Use the product's copy workflow when only one product should have different options.
Set up the storefront
Open Storefront → Product page options → Open theme editor. Add the options block and save in Shopify. Check each product template you use.
The app embed is optional unless you use cart buttons or product-card features. Set it up under Storefront → Cart & product-card features.
Open the real product on desktop and mobile, answer its questions, check the price and add it to the cart. A detected theme block is not a completed checkout test.
Optional verification and quantity limits live under Settings → Checkout rules. Start in Test mode. The quantity simulator checks quantity limits only; cart approvals, authorized quotes and express checkout need a storefront test before enforcement.
